Full Range Drivers For Open Baffle Designs
|
Baffle Range Hood
My baffle is 19' wide to accommodate the two 15' drivers and 42 inches tall, angled on top (trapezoid). 12' deep side walls taper to 4' at the top. Drivers are positioned off center. Bass drivers to one side and fullranger on the other. If you are trying to get a fullrange sound out of one B200 you might need to do some math. Each full range driver is pre mounted in a painted 8' x 8' removable baffle with a short piece of speaker wire that can be quickly attached to the barrier strip mounted just below the opening. The removable baffles are the metric equivalent of 1/2' thick. The object of the exercise with these speakers was to overcome these limitations, and to accomplish this with an affordable open back design. The drivers I chose were the 8' Dayton Audio PS220-8 full range driver, mounted on a simple open back baffle at ear-level (35”) above a 15' H-frame Eminence Alpha 15A, driven by its own 100 watt.
Open Baffle Speaker Design
The PM2MKII is equipped with the famous Lowther whizzer while the Supravox 215-2000 EXC is not. However both are marketed as full-range drivers and therefore the comparison on similar open baffles should be fair. Supravox open baffle from the side. Supravox 215-2000EXC field-coil driver from behind. A perfect amalgam of old (Feastrex field-coil full range driver) and new (DSP) technologies yeilds a full-range open baffle design of intense musicality.' Greatest Technological Breakthrough: 'Digital signal processing as applied to the open-baffle woofer array of the Lotus Group Granada speaker.'
